The Ala-Archa River valley, located 40 kilometers south of Bishkek in the central Kyrgyz Ala-Too Ridge, is one of the most picturesque spots near the city. Stretching over 35 kilometers, this gorge is the largest in the Kyrgyz Ridge and offers stunning landscapes, waterfalls, unique rock formations, and rich biodiversity with over 1,100 plant species. The name "Ala-Archa" means "colorful juniper," reflecting the area's diverse flora. A renowned destination for climbers worldwide, the gorge also attracts hikers with its beautiful waterfall at 2,700 meters in the Ak-Sai side gorge. Visitors might spot ibexes, marmots, pikas, and other wildlife while exploring this scenic region.

Alamedin mountain gorge, just 30 km from Bishkek, is popular for its accessibility and natural radon springs, which aid in relieving sleep disturbances, stress, and musculoskeletal and nervous system issues. The gorge houses the historic "Tyoplye Klyuchi" sanatorium. Today, you'll hike to Alamedin Waterfall with a Nordic walking instructor, who will guide you on this 5-kilometer route. Surrounded by lush greenery, sea buckthorn, barberry, and wild rose, and accompanied by the soothing hum of a mountain river, you'll find relaxation and inspiration. KEGETY GORGE (HIKING TO KOL-TOR LAKE)
After passing Tokmok town and taking several turns towards the mountains, you'll drive through picturesque meadows dotted with grazing animals and yurts. The Kegety River runs along the gorge, with its largest tributary, Kol-Tor, forming a scenic gorge and a lake at 2,725 meters that changes color with the weather. In the main Kegety Gorge, a stunning 20-meter waterfall lies just 100 meters from the road, offering a refreshing stop. Further along, you'll encounter the At-Jailoo tributary, known for its abandoned mines and abundant wildlife, including mammals and birds of prey like falcons, golden eagles, and gyrfalcons.

A one-and-a-half-hour drive will take us to the Burana Tower, the site of the former Balasagyn settlement, which thrived until the XIV-XV centuries before gradually falling into ruin. Once the capital of the Karakhanids Kingdom, it was abandoned after a plague in the 1330s. Today, only the fortress remnants and the 21-meter tower (originally 40 meters tall) remain. Visitors can explore tombstones, balbals, ancient millstones, and other cultural artifacts, and climb the tower for stunning photos. The site is particularly beautiful in spring, with blooming poppies contrasting against the snow-capped Kyrgyz Ridge.

ISSYK-ATA GORGE (HIKING TO THE WATERFALL AND HOT SPRINGS)
The Issyk-Ata Gorge features forested slopes and a rugged river lined with juniper, wild ash, dog rose, and other bushes. Subalpine meadows rich with flowers and herbs blanket the mountain slopes. Mount Batu, standing 3,800 meters high, dominates the gorge. Several tributaries join the Issyk-Ata River, each with its own waterfall. The first, an 8-meter waterfall, is just 2.4 kilometers from the resort at 2,100 meters altitude and is the most visited. Adventurous visitors can bathe in its cold streams. Another waterfall, 25 meters high, lies 5 kilometers further. We'll hike there for a picnic. Deeper in the gorge are lakes and glaciers, with the main gorge extending south to glaciers and the East Karakol pass. After our picnic, we'll descend, and those interested can enjoy a swim in one of the pools, a refreshing end to our hike.
