Ala-Archa Gorge (from 90$)

One of the most visited places in Kyrgyzstan is the Ala-Archa Nature Reserve. It is located 30 kilometers from Bishkek and it has everything: mountains, rivers with coniferous forests covering the mountainsides.
The reserve is a small valley inside a gorge, whose mountain ridges are covered with eternal glaciers and whose slopes are decorated with beautiful spruce forests. Small streams of melt water flow down from the glaciers, eventually forming the Ala-Archa River.
Another unique feature of the reserve is the mountaineers' camp located at an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level. Such famous mountain peaks as Semenov-Tyanshansky Peak (4875 meters) and Korona Peak (4860 meters) are located on the territory of the reserve. Semenov-Tyanshansky Peak is the highest point of the whole range. Mountaineers from all over the world gather here to conquer this peak.
The simplest and most elementary route "to the broken heart" + walk along the lower part of the reserve. This tour is designed for half a day, as the hiking time to Heartbreak will be about 1 hour on a dirt road with small gradients and obstacles. The height difference will be about 300 meters. At the Broken Heart, there is a beautiful panoramic view of the Ak-Sai and Ala-Archa gorges. Along the route, there are benches for sitting and picnic spots. Throughout the route, you can enjoy beautiful mountain views and also feed the birds and squirrels.
A more difficult route to the Ak-Sai waterfall. The height of the waterfall is 25 meters. The waterfall is located at an altitude of 2800 meters above sea level. The route length is 5 km one way. The average time for the route is about 4 hours (2 hours one way and 2 hours back).

Burana Tower (from 90$)

Burana Tower is the main monument of ancient culture in the Chu Valley and the famous Great Silk Road passing through its territory. The tower, which was once the tallest minaret in Central Asia, was the heart of the capital of the Kara-Khanid state - the city of Balasagun - located in this area in the 10th-12th centuries. Its original height was 40 meters, but during an earthquake, the upper part of the tower collapsed, and since then, the height of the tower has been 21 meters.
The cultural significance of the tower is truly great, as it is the only surviving monument of ancient architecture in the region, preserved to such an extent. In addition to the tower, the entire territory of the Burana archaeological site is of great interest. Numerous burial mounds, remnants of ancient fortifications, and the so-called "stone garden" - a collection of balbals (ancient stone grave markers) and stone tools (millstones, etc.) - are located within its territory.

The complex is situated in a very picturesque location, near the Shamsi and Kegety gorges, slightly south of the town of Tokmok. From here, there is a magnificent panorama of the eastern part of the Kyrgyz Range, and in May and June, you can see the blooming poppy fields.

Tuyuk Gorge and Kok-Moinok Lake (from 100$)

This gorge is part of the Issyk-Ata gorge system, where all the rivers merge into the Issyk-Ata River. The entrance to the gorge is from the cottages near the village of Santash. Here, the gorge is very wide with low slopes, heavily overgrown with shrubs, mostly barberry and wild rose. Twelve kilometers from the beginning, the gorge splits into two parts: on the left, it continues as Tuyuk, and on the right, it branches off as Kok-Moinok.
In the Kok-Moinok gorge, the trail goes much higher above the river and follows a grassy slope with rare juniper trees. Here, there is a private fishing pond where you can catch trout for a fee, and further on, there is a cascading waterfall with a height of 16 meters. Farther from the beginning, there is Kok-Moinok Lake (2780 meters above sea level) and an uncategorized Kok-Moinok pass (2860 meters above sea level), which can be crossed to enter the Tuyuk gorge. There seems to be a good guesthouse or perhaps a private one, but if arrangements are made, I think they will accommodate visitors, and there is also a trout farm nearby.

Belogorsky Gorge (from 100$)

Belogorsky Gorge - located above the village of Sokuluk, is notable for its unusual terrain, which preserves traces of a giant landslide, and for having the highest waterfall in all of northern Kyrgyzstan, a 60-meter waterfall known as the Belogorsky Waterfall. The end of the road in the gorge opens up an impressive panorama of the towering waterfall, practically vertical cliffs, and the magnificent Black Spire Peak, notable for its unusual shape.
The Belogorsky Waterfall is one of the highest waterfalls in the Tien Shan and the tallest in northern Kyrgyzstan. Water gushes from a height of 60 meters in a turbulent and full-flowing stream. Sprays from the waterfall can be felt from approximately 200 meters away, and it's chilly to stand near the waterfall even on the hottest day. The giant water column formed by the waterfall is visible from 10-12 kilometers away. It's only three kilometers from the end of the road to reach the waterfall, so anyone can get there regardless of their level of preparation.

Lake Issyk-Kul (from 260$)

Lake Issyk-Kul (also spelled as Yssyk-Kol) is undoubtedly the main attraction of the country. Issyk-Kul is unique in every respect. The lake is located in the center of the vast Issyk-Kul basin, between the two massive ranges of Kungey-Ala-Too and Terskey-Ala-Too, occupying almost the entire area. The lake's altitude is 1700 meters above sea level, making Issyk-Kul the second-largest alpine lake in the world, second only to Lake Titicaca in South America. The maximum depth of the lake reaches 702 meters, making it one of the deepest lakes in the world. The length of the lake's shoreline is almost 700 kilometers, vividly demonstrating its vastness. The lake's fullness is maintained by numerous glacial rivers descending from the slopes of the Tien Shan mountains—more than 80 of them.
The water in Issyk-Kul is salty, and it does not freeze even in winter. This is the reason why the lake got its name: Issyk-Kul which translates from Kyrgyz as "hot lake." The lake creates a unique maritime climate in the valley, which is extremely unusual for high mountainous areas and Central Asia as a whole. For example, winters here are much milder than in other regions of the country, and in summer, on the contrary, it is not so hot. In summer, the water in Issyk-Kul warms up to 20-25 degrees Celsius, making the lake a favorite bathing spot for both locals and tourists from other countries.

The road through the gorge is of good quality, and you can easily travel on it in almost any vehicle, as well as on a motorcycle.

Plateau Arabel (from 295$)

Plateau Arabel is a high-mountain valley located at an altitude of 3800 meters above sea level. This remarkable place is situated in the southern part of the Issyk-Kul region, near the Barskoon Gorge and the Kumtor gold mine.
High-mountain valleys (also known as syrts) are a rare and very astonishing phenomenon, especially at such altitudes. The average temperature in these places is only 5-7 degrees Celsius, and the land is practically devoid of vegetation. Only grass, moss, and lichens survive in such areas. Due to abundant precipitation and glacier melting, the valley has a lot of water bodies: rivers, lakes, and marshy swamps. It's a unique high-mountain tundra. There are more than 50 large lakes in this area alone.
The valley owes its interesting relief and abundance of lakes to the glacier that existed here in ancient times. It leveled the valley and left behind such a large number of lake basins.

Jeti-Oguz Gorge (from 260$)

Jeti-Oguz Gorge (also spelled as Jetioguz, Jety-Oguz, etc.) is one of the most popular attractions in the Issyk-Kul region. Located 30 kilometers from the town of Karakol, it attracts many tourists, both local and foreign.
Jeti-Oguz, translated from Kyrgyz, means "Seven Bulls." This specific name was given to the gorge because of the cliff made of red clay, which is a kind of hallmark of the gorge. The rocks have a very bright color, which is quite rare for the Tien Shan mountains.
The gorge has a fairly large length—almost 40 kilometers—and over this extensive territory, there are numerous interesting places to visit. The Jeti-Oguz waterfalls are widely known, among which the waterfall called "Seven Bulls," named for its peculiar rock formations resembling bulls, is particularly popular among tourists.
Twelve kilometers above the resort, there is the Valley of Flowers, where the "Cosmonauts' Cottages" are located. And this is not a poetic name—during the Soviet era, participants of space flights really trained and rested here. The valley is covered with a large number of trees, and in May, it turns into a carpet of poppies.

Altyn-Arashan gained its status as a nature reserve in 1963 and maintains it to this day, as it is one of the few places on the planet where dense relic forests of Tian Shan spruce have been preserved. The hot springs of Altyn-Arashan are also widely known. They are located at a record height of 2600 meters and have healing properties due to the presence of radon and hydrogen sulfide in the water, maintaining a high temperature year-round: 35 degrees for the radon spring and 41 degrees for the hydrogen sulfide spring. Some of the springs have covered pools, while others remain "wild," situated in carved stone pools or caves.

Lake Son-Kul (from 300$)

Lake Son-Kul (also Song-Kul, Son-Kyol, Songkul, etc.) is a large high-mountain lake, the second largest in Kyrgyzstan, located in the Naryn region, approximately 280 kilometers from Bishkek. Son-Kul is located at an altitude of 3000 meters in a large intermountain valley, bordered to the north by the Sonkul-Too Range and to the south by the Moldo-Too Range. The lake is freshwater and quite deep - the maximum depth of the lake is 14 meters. Approximately in mid-November, Son-Kul freezes, and it thaws only by mid-April.
The area around the lake is very picturesque, especially in the summer. Son-Kul is surrounded by low hills, behind which you can see sharp peaks and snow of the Central Tien Shan. Due to the high altitude, there are no trees here, as only low stiff grass and numerous edelweiss grow in such conditions. Although the lake is not very large in size, its shores differ significantly from each other. The southern and eastern shores are quite flat and in some places marshy, while the northern and western shores are quite steep, and the road along the lake winds through the hills, sometimes sharply rising above the water level, and then dropping just as sharply. Son-Kul is quite a remote place, so anthropogenic influence here is minimal. Only in the summer, nomadic camps from villages located in the neighboring Jumgal Valley and Naryn arrive here. At other times, the Son-Kul valley is completely uninhabited.
